What if your baby falls?

Oops did your baby just fall off a chair? Let's go check them out if there is any serious injury! What should you do when your baby just falls off?👶The baby looks okay to youThe moment your baby falls off gives you an adrenaline rush.🏃‍♀️ You run as fast as you can to your baby to make sure that your child doesn't have any serious wounds. If the baby looks okay, probably the fall doesn't cause serious injury or break some bones.🦴 You still need to continue observing your baby for the next 24 hours to see if any symptoms develop. 👶The baby feels uncomfortableIf your baby is crying out loud, probably they must have gotten hurt or they are irritable because of the fall.😭 The best decision is to take them to the doctor to get checked out thoroughly. It's not necessary to keep the child awake although it's better to monitor their health when they are still active.🤾‍♀️ What is dangerous is that they probably fall on their head, feel dizzy and want to sleep but can't easily wake up. If they sleep, you should wake them after two hours to see if the child is still alert.💤Stay calm to identify serious signs👶Simple signsYou can't help feeling anxious when you see your child crying nonstop.😭 If the baby just has a light bump, their tears come from pain or fright and will not last longer than 10 minutes. 👶Serious signsConstant headache or dizziness can be the result of a serious hit.🤕 Your baby might be extremely irritable and cry incessantly. More severely, you may see them excessively sleepy and have a difficult time waking up. The baby might vomit after a strong hit on their head.🤮Treatment for your baby👶Treatment at homeIf you have successfully ruled out serious injury, you can treat your baby's mild bump at home. Wrap an ice pack🧊 in a thin towel or diaper and hold it onto the bump for fifteen or twenty minutes. You can nurse them or say something sweet to your little one to soothe them and distract them from the pain.😀If your baby is constantly in pain, you can give them the appropriate amount of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.💊 Avoid aspirin because it can cause a rare but serious condition called Reye's syndrome.👶Call the ER!If your child experiences loss of consciousness, unresponsiveness, non stop bleeding, you have to call for an emergency.🚑 Any signs of a fractured bone, a concussion, inability to walk steadily or talk, prolonged screaming indicate your baby can be in danger. You have to talk to their doctor immediately and take the baby to the emergency room.👩‍⚕️

Tips for Positive Parenting

The definition of positive parenting varies but the core idea can be summed up to warm, positive family interactions and guidelines!Tips for positive parenting👪Get inside your child's headAlthough on the outside your child's behaviors look unjustified and irrational, they are motivated by legitimate needs.🧸 If you can get inside their heads, you can address their needs. Always keep in mind that they are still developing and give them the benefit of the doubt.😎👪Empathetic, supportive and constructiveYou don't have to agree with your child's demands all the time. Instead, the goal is to be the kind of arbitrator and mentor you would want for yourself and your baby.😀Your kid would love a parent who is prepared to listen to their side of the story and reassure them that they are being heard.💖 They know that they will get a fair-minded and sympathetic hearing. You are the one who will reason with them, use encouragement and humor to steer them away from negative emotions while introducing solutions.🥰👪The art of distractionIf you notice that your baby has gotten hold of a forbidden object, you just camly remove it and show your child something else. Look at these colorful toys!🪅 Your child might be attracted to them immediately when you find them more interesting.  Distraction is useful for old kids too. When your child is overwhelmed by feelings of outrage and confinement, they don't know how to stop but they can divert their focus into something else.👀👪Humor and playfulnessJokes and silliness are considered excellent distractions.😚 Your kid might feel more excited and motivated if you make requests with humor and transform work into play.👪Make sure that most of your interactions are positiveKids are mirrors, reflecting images of what happens around them.🪞 Positive social interactions create more trusting family relationships and motivate kids to be cooperative.More tips for positive parenting👪Validate your kid's reasonsIt's important that you don't expect your kids to read your mind.😊 Two-way conversations are much more beneficial when you don't just recite the rules but rather to explain the rationale of the rules and undertake your baby's questions and concerns.👪Try to say yes as much as possible'No' can be viewed as a negative word that fuels resentment and resistance since your kid is not yet able to understand how to learn from negative feedback. Parental criticism can also trigger feelings of hopelessness.😞 Hence, you should either suggest alternatives and help the kid accept different options. 👪Catch children at being goodIt's crucial that you give praise at the right moment.😘 Children may respond to rewards and compliments more readily than punishments. After your kid finishes homework, let's offer simple praise 'well done!' for the kid's good behavior.👪Be a good mentorTalking with your child about their feelings and discussing helpful strategies for handling difficult emotions indicate your respect for your kid and your willingness to offer sympathetic hearing.👂 You also provide your little one with concrete support and assurance that no matter what, mommy is right here!

Parenting stress

That nervous feeling when you're about to meet your baby for the first time is engraved in your heart.💓 You just look at them in awe every time and gain strength to become the best parents for them. But you can't avoid stress along the way…Parenting stress👪What is parenting stress?Parenting stress is the distress when you feel you can't cope as a parent.😞 After pregnancy, expectations and demands placed on you are so high that you seem to run out of resources and strength to meet them. 👪What causes parenting stress? The causation varies depending on each family. Stress can originate from poor economic status, inadequate support system, and exposure to hostility.⚔️ Anything that makes you worry about your ability to protect your child and thrive can contribute to parenting stress.🙁Ways to cope with parenting stress👪Reach out for supportParenting is a lot easier if you have your supporters on your side.👪 Contact your friends, family members and especially your partner to share your feelings. You can always count on their support for emotional support, financial aid💰 and childcare help.If you don't live near friends or relatives, you can look for local parenting cooperatives, online communities and trained therapis‍ts.😀 Enrolling in parenting classes can be helpful too as you can seek new friends, reduce your feelings of guilt and stress while gaining more knowledge.👪Avoid unnecessary exposure to signals that drag you downAfter a very brief exposure to negative emotional content, it's natural that you pay attention more to upsetting images, replay bad memories and worry about the future. Such thoughts keep circulating in your head, causing more anxiety and gloom.😥Overdosing on bad news spikes up your stress levels, undermines yourself and hurts you gradually. Instead, try to put yourself together, think constructively, think brightly.🤔 Everything will be just fine and you can do it! 👪Focus on the goodYou can induce good moods by downloading happy memories into your head. Do you remember when your little one just took the first step or called your name for the first time? When you return home from work, remember how you feel when you see your child's smiles and hugs.🤗Reflect on good memories and read jokes, uplifting stories to make you feel better. Focusing on acts of kindness and positive messages will help you decrease stress responses.😀👪Re-appraise the situationWe often think that we are good at predicting things if we have a plan. Actually, we are pretty bad at anticipating future discomforts. Sometimes, stressful things just occur along the way.😞When bad things happen, you may find a coping strategy when you reconsider the situation from a new angle. Stop dwelling too much on your personal emotional reactions, try to view the problem with more objectivity.💪

Attachment parenting

Parenting isn't one-size-fit-alls. You might feel a lot of pressure to pick one style of parenting, in reality, the act of parenting is a true journey, not a set of required practices. You're welcome to take your time to figure it out.😀Attachment parenting👪Definition of attachment parenting?Attachment parenting is not all about a frenetic attempt to deliver the fastest responses when your baby sends a signal. It's actually about finding a balance between parents' lives and childcare duties.⚖️The ancestral implication that mothers are designed to devote themselves to child-rearing to the point that they can't have a private life is out-dated.⚠️ Something is wrong if you and your baby cannot enjoy the parenting journey. What it truly means is attending to your child's cues and taking action accordingly that suits both you and your baby.🥰👪Common practices of attachment parentingIf you choose attachment parenting, you may find yourself frequently holding your baby, breastfeeding🤱 whenever your little one cries even in the middle of the night.🌙 You become sensitive and responsive to your child's emotions. You decide to co-sleep with your baby to monitor them better.Benefits of attachment parenting👪Secure bondsUnlike unresponsive and more controlling parents, sensitive mothers tend to pay attention more to the child's interests and needs.👂 The quality of communication between you and your child indicates more secure attachment relationships.👪Promote independenceInfants are less likely to develop fearful tendencies if they know that you are always there by their side.👩‍👦 They show a greater level of positive mood, more constructive coping and better regulation of emotion on their own. 👪Help children cope with stressSkin-to-skin contacts and co-sleeping can help your baby develop a healthy stress response system, improved sleep patterns and better cognitive control.🧠 Once the kid receives warm and sensitive parenting, they are protected from brain-shrinking stress and autoimmune disorders.👪Fewer behavior problemsSecurely - attached children are less likely to develop behavior problems since they develop better cognitive flexibility and perspective taking-skills.🤗 Moreover, if they are engaged in mutually responsive, positive reactions with you, it is more likely that they develop consciences and comply with adult instructions.😛

Emotion Coaching

Whenever your baby feels sad or angry, do you try to empathize with their emotion or just ignore and move on? Emotionally supportive relationships can be beneficial more than you think.😎Emotion coaching👪What is emotion coaching?Based on the principle that emotionally supportive relationships provide the best context for children to grow up, emotion coaching is the practice of helping your baby learn to self-regulate negative emotions when you tune in your child's feelings and show empathy.🤗 Because the kid is not capable of handling difficult emotions and having rich life experiences like adults, you are the ultimate guide who needs to accept and validate their feelings, helps them label emotions with words and instructs them to overcome hardships.🤱👪Why kids need you to emphasize?Young children lack our life experiences and are incompetent at reading others' feelings and intentions. Your kid needs you to guide them to learn and practice.👩‍🏫Some kids have a tougher time than others at mood management. The key is you can provide help and teach them to handle those emotional storms.😀Ways that emotion coaching works👪Notice signs before your child's emotions get intenseIs your kid looking a bit frustrated?😤 Although your initial reaction might be to ignore it and regard negative emotions as offensive, this is actually the golden opportunity for you to better understand your child and help them cope with it.💪Talk to your child how they look different now and ask the reason why they behave so.️ If you suspect a trigger, gently bring it up so that the child feels like they are being heard.😀👪Listen, validate and show empathyYou need to stay calm even though your child is furious in front of you.😌 What you really need to do is to relate to your kid's experiences by drawing parallels in your own life.Imagine when you are upset at your coworkers when something goes wrong at your work. That is also your child's feelings when they are rejected or humiliated at school.🏫 You can relate to the situation and understand why your kid feels that way.😇👪Find verbal labels for emotionsAs you listen and empathize with your kids, you can help them identify what exactly their feelings are.😍 Learning how to verbalize emotions teaches them to shift into a more detached and analytical point of view and view emotions as a normal reaction to a triggering situation. The method isn't merely telling your baby how they should feel. But rather to ask questions, align with our own experiences and help them understand their own emotions better.🤗👪Allow your child to take time to calm downPowerful emotions, such as anger, anxiety trigger a fight or flight response. They block the ability to reason and control impulses, making us vulnerable to overreacting.🛡️The same thing happens to your child. If your baby is highly distressed about an uncomfortable situation, let them take a pause and allow the stress response to wind down.😮‍💨 Don't be tempted to start problem-solving and expect them to reason with you when they are not ready.

This is the delightful phenomenon of "parallel play."Babies and toddlers are like solo adventurers, exploring their own imaginative realms while sharing the same play space. 👶 Whether it's a playgroup with soft blocks or a mini kitchen with budding chefs, they're all engaged in their individual acts, learning the ropes of social play one imaginative performance at a time! Why is it important?Guess what? Even when your little one seems to be in their own world during parallel play, they're actually being sly little observers! 🕵️‍♂️ Imagine your child is playing alongside their buddies but not quite engaging with them. It's like a secret mission of sorts. They're quietly taking notes on what their pal is up to, even if they don't spill the beans about it right away. It's like undercover research in the world of playdates! And here's the fun part: as time goes on, your clever kiddo will start imitating what they've been secretly spying on. 👬 Yes, it's a bit like "peer pressure," but in this case, it's a good thing! It's like a spark that ignites your baby's curiosity, opening up new avenues of play and maybe even helping them discover some new words along the way.But that's not all! Parallel play is like the sneak peek of a blockbuster movie before the big show. It's a sneak peek of more social, communal fun and games to come. Playing the same way side by side with others introduces your little one to the idea of sharing playtime joy with friends, paving the way for cooperative play in the future. So, the next time you catch them in parallel play mode, remember, they're on a top-secret mission to supercharge their social and play skills! 🤸‍♂️🎉How do you help your toddler with parallel play?🔮Boosting Toddler Social SkillsPicture this: your child's social evolution is in full swing, and playing side by side is a totally natural part of the process. But how can you help them level up those peer-to-peer skills and have a blast while doing it? Here's the lowdown! 💁‍♀️If your little one's in day care, chances are they're already pros at parallel play. If they're hanging out at home, you can be their social superhero by setting up some epic playdates with kids around their age. Think about planning a neighborhood park or playground rendezvous or even joining a mommy-and-me class for some shared fun. And if your tot seems a bit hesitant, no worries! 😎 Just let them ease into it at their own pace, no pressure.🔮Nurturing Playful Peer InteractionNow, when your mini-adventurer is playing alongside their buddies, it's time for you to channel your inner cool and resist the urge to hover too much. Let the kids do their thing and keep themselves busy. Sure, there might be a few minor toy-related tiffs – sharing is like the ultimate puzzle for young toddlers, after all. 🧩 But here's the secret sauce: try sitting back and see if these tiny tots can work things out amongst themselves. If things start to get seriously sizzling, that's your cue to step in, but remember, no need for scolding or shaming if your child's having a tough time sharing. The best teacher here is modeling positive sharing behavior. Sure, it might take a bit of time, but the fun and learning are all part of the game! ✨

Imaginary Friends and Toddlers

Having an imaginary friend💑 is like having a constant companion in the world of make-believe. It's usually more on the cute and creative side, a sign of a vivid imagination rather than cause for concern. Kids often use these imaginary pals as playmates to navigate their imaginative adventures. It's a whimsical part of childhood👀!What is an imaginary friend?Spot on! An imaginary friend is a fantastic sidekick created by your child's imagination🧠. It could be another child, a plush animal, a real animal, a doll, a toy, or even a legendary creature—whatever ignites her imagination. And here's the fun part😊: some toddlers persist with one imaginary acquaintance for months, while others bounce from one to the next like daily playdate friends. There's also the potential of having an entire fictitious entourage! The imagination is limitless♾️!Is this normal and How should I respond to my child's imaginary friend?👉Absolutely!Imaginary friends are not just normal; they're practically a childhood rite of passage. Research🔍 tells us that about two-thirds of kids conjure up these invisible companions at some point in their early years. Having an invisible buddy shouldn't set off any alarm bells. It doesn't🙅‍♂️🙅‍♀️ mean your little one is feeling lonely, stressed, or dealing with any health issues.👉But wait, there's more!Imaginary friends become emotional outlets. They help kids express feelings they might find tricky to talk about directly. Maybe Snuggles isn't keen on moving to a new house—that's a conversation starter right there. Empathy lessons, vocabulary workouts, social interaction practice—check, check, and check✔️! Plus, problem-solving skills get a boost🚀. Overhear a debate about the number of dogs in their imaginary house? That's problem-solving in action! And let's not forget the creativity explosion💣. Your toddler becomes a mini storyteller, crafting scenarios and places for her invisible buddies to explore—zoo one day, moon explorers in raincoats the next. Who knew imaginary friends came with such a treasure trove of benefits? When do imaginary friends become a problem?👉Normally, it's okay.Having an invisible sidekick is usually all in good fun and doesn't raise any red flags about your little one's mental health. Some parents wonder if these make-believe pals might hinder real-life friendships, but fear not—researchers have swooped in with good news🙆‍♂️🙆‍♀️. Kids with imaginary friends are pros at juggling both fantasy and reality, rocking a squad of real friends alongside their invisible entourage.👉But if your kiddo seems uneasy with her invisible buddy...Now, while imaginary friends are generally a whimsical part of childhood, there are a few scenarios where a chat with the pediatrician might be a good idea. If your kiddo seems uneasy around her invisible buddy, or if the imaginary friend overstays its welcome with non-stop chatter, it's worth a check-in. The doc🧑‍⚕️ is your go-to superhero if the invisible friend starts giving out unsafe advice or if your child's attitude and behavior pull a sudden plot twist.👉Remember! If you spot concerns in other areas—speech, social interactions, or if there's a family history of mental illness among close relatives—keeping the pediatrician in the loop is always a smart move. Superheroes need their sidekicks to be in tip-top shape🦸‍♂️👫!

Skin rashes in babies and toddlers - Part 1

My little one started scratching! Her skin turned red and covered with weird bumps😵! What should I do? Don't panic, we'll help you!💪What causes rashes in children? There are various factors that cause skin rashes at young ages. Most skin rashes are no big deal that will go away as time passes or with medication. If it seems like the rash isn't bothering your cutie, all you need to do is just keep him/her comfy until the skin returns to normal. If it bothers you and your baby, it is always a good idea to call the doctor. Here is a list of the most common causes of skin rashes✔️Diaper rashDiaper rash is when a red rash appears around a baby's genital area or buttocks. Urine and diarrhea is the major reason for skin irritation and itchiness, so it is important to change the baby's diaper frequently. If your baby's skin is sensitive👶, an ingredient in a diaper or wipe could also cause the rash. Usually, diaper rashes can be prevented and removed with simple treatments at home. Giving a little time and air-drying the genital area when changing diapers could help a lot from skin irritation. You can get ointments for rash from drug stores without a doctor's prescription, so you might want to try them if you think the baby needs some treatments🩹.✔️EczemaEczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, causes dry, inflamed, and itchy skin conditions that can develop as a chronic skin disease. Eczema patches tend to be very itchy, so the babies feel very uncomfortable when the patches arise😢. The exact causes of eczema are uncertain yet, but experts assume it's coming from environmental irritants and allergens like scratchy fabrics, dust, use of home liquids, and foods. It can be managed by keeping skin hydrated and avoiding known triggers, so taking good care of the surroundings is important🧹.✔️Bug bitesWe have all experienced bug bites🐜. As we all know, when an insect bites, skin inflames and turns red. It gets itchy, and painful sometimes! Avoiding contact with bugs is the only solution. Wear clothes and cover your baby's skin as much as possible. There are gentle bug repellents that are safe for babies, so you could try them when you take your baby outside🏕️, especially at dawn and night because that is when bugs are active. ✔️Dry skinHave you had a moment when you feel like you need extra hydration to your skin? Your baby can have that feeling too! Baby skin is extra sensitive and produces fewer moisturizing oils than grown-ups, which makes it vulnerable to cold air, long baths, drooling, scented lotions, or irritating home chemicals like soaps🧼 or detergents. If dry skin happens, your baby's skin can turn red, and look rough or flaky. Cracking and peeling can also happen, and itchiness could be painful if it gets worse! Constant moisturizing is the key. Use a humidifier if the room is dry, and keep putting lotions🧴 on your baby will help!✔️RoseolaRoseola usually appears in babies aged 6 to 24 months, when the baby's immunity is at its weakest. The virus is highly contagious as well🦠, and it can be passed through sneezing or touching contaminated surfaces. The infection starts with a high fever and sore throat, and you'll notice some redness arises around your baby's eyes. A few days after that, rose-colored rashes will appear and spread around the baby's torso (the name Roseola came from this!🥀). Fortunately, rashes from Roseola don't leave any discharge or scab, and the virus fades within a week without any special treatment.

If you travel to or live in the area where the Dengue virus occurs, make to dress your baby in clothes that cover the whole body👖, such as long sleeves, long pants, and sock that covers the whole feet. The use of bug repellent and mosquito netting over the beds at night is also an effective way to avoid contact with mosquitos.

Toddler Dance Classes

Got a little one at home with twinkle-toed feet? Whether your tiny dancer is already a ballet star in the making or just loves groovin' to the beat, toddler dance classes can be a fantastic way to boost their motor skills and let their creative spirit shine. So, before you leap into action and enroll your mini-mover, let's pirouette through this guide to toddler dance classes – it's bound to make you smile and your munchkin dance with glee! 🩰💃The Joys and Benefits"Ready to Dance? Absolutely! Your tiny tot, once just taking baby steps, is now a twirling whirlwind of spontaneous dance moves. 🌪️ By 18 months, they're practically the toddler version of Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers, so there's no shortage of dance schools and studios offering classes for two-year-olds.Why is it worth it? Well, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that these toddler dance classes aren't just fun; they're a fantastic way for your little one to get some exercise. They're also perfect for helping your growing gal get accustomed to group settings, especially if she's not yet in daycare or preschool. 🏫  Plus, dance classes for two-year-olds and toddler music classes tap into their natural love for all things musical. It's like introducing your little one to a symphony while they're still in diapers! 🎵 Choosing a ClassTo embark on your toddler's dance journey, start by gathering recommendations from parents and local community members. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Once you have a list of options, reach out to the schools to inquire about their two-year-old dance classes. Remember, at this age, it's all about fun, so avoid classes that focus on technique or require recitals and costly costumes. Check their absence and makeup policies for flexibility. 😎 Ask about parental involvement, as younger toddlers thrive in mommy-and-me programs, while older ones do well in small classes. Most studios offer observation options. When you've narrowed down your choices, visit the class space. Ensure it's clean, well-lit, and spacious enough for active two-year-olds. Finally, observe the teacher in action – a passion for teaching and a way with kids matter more than an extensive ballet background. 👀🔍  Gearing UpToddler dance classes won't have you emptying your pockets on extras, unless you find yourself in a class that puts on a fabulous show 🎭 at the end – and, in that case, you might be twirling towards an expensive costume. 💸 Now, when it comes to the dress code, it's a bit like a dance-off where every class has its own unique groove. Some of the traditional dance studios might have your tiny dancer donning leotards and tights, while the more laid-back programs let the little ones dress in whatever tickles their fancy and keeps them comfy. What really matters here is that your pint-sized performer can twirl, whirl, and pirouette to their heart's content in whatever outfit they choose! 👗🕺

When Do Toddlers Start Running, Jumping, Kicking and Climbing?

Buckle up because once your toddler takes those first steps, they're on a whirlwind adventure of running, jumping, and climbing. These big movements, known as gross motor skills, are a vital part of their development, involving large muscle activities like sitting unassisted and mastering ball games. 💨When do toddlers learn to run?Get ready for your little speedster to upgrade from walking to running around 18 to 24 months. 🏃‍♂️ While a tumble here and there is par for the course, by the time they hit the terrific three, running will be second nature to them. To boost their need for speed, supercharge their playtime with push toys and fun games of "chase." Join the action with hide and seek or lively rounds of Simon Says. Encourage outdoor exploration by letting them tear around the backyard and take mini-walks or runs, ditching the stroller now and then. 🏁🚗 And for a real running bonanza, head to the park where they can dash around the playground or chase butterflies along nature trails under your watchful eye. It's all about letting them unleash their energy in a safe and supervised way! Jumping and Climbing!🔔Developing Jumping SkillsAs your toddler hits the age of 2, get ready for a jumpstart in their development. From one-foot hops to confidently landing both feet off the ground, they'll be hopping, leaping, and exploring the thrill of jumping. 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♂️ Boost their jumping skills with playful strategies: step-hopping, froggy-style squats, and imitating animal hoppers like bunnies and kangaroos.🔔Fostering Confidence and Balance through JumpingHelp them balance and build confidence by holding their hand initially and gradually letting them spread their wings, or in this case, their arms. 🧸 Once they've mastered walking, they'll eagerly embrace this new challenge, seeking new heights and fresh perspectives on life.Between their first and second birthdays, climbing becomes their favorite pastime. 🔔Encouraging Safe ClimbingBy age 2, most toddlers can expertly climb up and down on furniture without any assistance. Create a safe climbing environment with plastic slides and step stools, visit playgrounds for adventure, and establish clear boundaries about where they can climb. Offer guidance through modeling and clear feedback, nurturing their confidence and coordination as they explore the world from new heights. 🌟How about kicking?Get ready for your toddler's soccer debut! ⚽ Somewhere between 18 and 24 months, they'll start showing interest in kicking a ball, and by age 2, most toddlers can't resist giving it a boot. While their first kicks may be more spontaneous than strategic, with practice and patience, they'll be scoring goals in no time. 🥅To help them practice, start with a ball and enjoy some playful back-and-forth kicking sessions. If they need extra encouragement, consider a toddler sports class for a bit of peer motivation. And, remember, if those kicks get a bit too enthusiastic, it's crucial to set boundaries by addressing aggressive behavior with clear verbal guidance and swift intervention during playdates. Always keep your cool – adult aggression isn't part of the game plan. 👨‍🏫
