What if your baby falls?

Oops did your baby just fall off a chair? Let's go check them out if there is any serious injury! What should you do when your baby just falls off?👶The baby looks okay to youThe moment your baby falls off gives you an adrenaline rush.🏃‍♀️ You run as fast as you can to your baby to make sure that your child doesn't have any serious wounds. If the baby looks okay, probably the fall doesn't cause serious injury or break some bones.🦴 You still need to continue observing your baby for the next 24 hours to see if any symptoms develop. 👶The baby feels uncomfortableIf your baby is crying out loud, probably they must have gotten hurt or they are irritable because of the fall.😭 The best decision is to take them to the doctor to get checked out thoroughly. It's not necessary to keep the child awake although it's better to monitor their health when they are still active.🤾‍♀️ What is dangerous is that they probably fall on their head, feel dizzy and want to sleep but can't easily wake up. If they sleep, you should wake them after two hours to see if the child is still alert.💤Stay calm to identify serious signs👶Simple signsYou can't help feeling anxious when you see your child crying nonstop.😭 If the baby just has a light bump, their tears come from pain or fright and will not last longer than 10 minutes. 👶Serious signsConstant headache or dizziness can be the result of a serious hit.🤕 Your baby might be extremely irritable and cry incessantly. More severely, you may see them excessively sleepy and have a difficult time waking up. The baby might vomit after a strong hit on their head.🤮Treatment for your baby👶Treatment at homeIf you have successfully ruled out serious injury, you can treat your baby's mild bump at home. Wrap an ice pack🧊 in a thin towel or diaper and hold it onto the bump for fifteen or twenty minutes. You can nurse them or say something sweet to your little one to soothe them and distract them from the pain.😀If your baby is constantly in pain, you can give them the appropriate amount of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.💊 Avoid aspirin because it can cause a rare but serious condition called Reye's syndrome.👶Call the ER!If your child experiences loss of consciousness, unresponsiveness, non stop bleeding, you have to call for an emergency.🚑 Any signs of a fractured bone, a concussion, inability to walk steadily or talk, prolonged screaming indicate your baby can be in danger. You have to talk to their doctor immediately and take the baby to the emergency room.👩‍⚕️

Tips for Positive Parenting

The definition of positive parenting varies but the core idea can be summed up to warm, positive family interactions and guidelines!Tips for positive parenting👪Get inside your child's headAlthough on the outside your child's behaviors look unjustified and irrational, they are motivated by legitimate needs.🧸 If you can get inside their heads, you can address their needs. Always keep in mind that they are still developing and give them the benefit of the doubt.😎👪Empathetic, supportive and constructiveYou don't have to agree with your child's demands all the time. Instead, the goal is to be the kind of arbitrator and mentor you would want for yourself and your baby.😀Your kid would love a parent who is prepared to listen to their side of the story and reassure them that they are being heard.💖 They know that they will get a fair-minded and sympathetic hearing. You are the one who will reason with them, use encouragement and humor to steer them away from negative emotions while introducing solutions.🥰👪The art of distractionIf you notice that your baby has gotten hold of a forbidden object, you just camly remove it and show your child something else. Look at these colorful toys!🪅 Your child might be attracted to them immediately when you find them more interesting.  Distraction is useful for old kids too. When your child is overwhelmed by feelings of outrage and confinement, they don't know how to stop but they can divert their focus into something else.👀👪Humor and playfulnessJokes and silliness are considered excellent distractions.😚 Your kid might feel more excited and motivated if you make requests with humor and transform work into play.👪Make sure that most of your interactions are positiveKids are mirrors, reflecting images of what happens around them.🪞 Positive social interactions create more trusting family relationships and motivate kids to be cooperative.More tips for positive parenting👪Validate your kid's reasonsIt's important that you don't expect your kids to read your mind.😊 Two-way conversations are much more beneficial when you don't just recite the rules but rather to explain the rationale of the rules and undertake your baby's questions and concerns.👪Try to say yes as much as possible'No' can be viewed as a negative word that fuels resentment and resistance since your kid is not yet able to understand how to learn from negative feedback. Parental criticism can also trigger feelings of hopelessness.😞 Hence, you should either suggest alternatives and help the kid accept different options. 👪Catch children at being goodIt's crucial that you give praise at the right moment.😘 Children may respond to rewards and compliments more readily than punishments. After your kid finishes homework, let's offer simple praise 'well done!' for the kid's good behavior.👪Be a good mentorTalking with your child about their feelings and discussing helpful strategies for handling difficult emotions indicate your respect for your kid and your willingness to offer sympathetic hearing.👂 You also provide your little one with concrete support and assurance that no matter what, mommy is right here!

Parenting stress

That nervous feeling when you're about to meet your baby for the first time is engraved in your heart.💓 You just look at them in awe every time and gain strength to become the best parents for them. But you can't avoid stress along the way…Parenting stress👪What is parenting stress?Parenting stress is the distress when you feel you can't cope as a parent.😞 After pregnancy, expectations and demands placed on you are so high that you seem to run out of resources and strength to meet them. 👪What causes parenting stress? The causation varies depending on each family. Stress can originate from poor economic status, inadequate support system, and exposure to hostility.⚔️ Anything that makes you worry about your ability to protect your child and thrive can contribute to parenting stress.🙁Ways to cope with parenting stress👪Reach out for supportParenting is a lot easier if you have your supporters on your side.👪 Contact your friends, family members and especially your partner to share your feelings. You can always count on their support for emotional support, financial aid💰 and childcare help.If you don't live near friends or relatives, you can look for local parenting cooperatives, online communities and trained therapis‍ts.😀 Enrolling in parenting classes can be helpful too as you can seek new friends, reduce your feelings of guilt and stress while gaining more knowledge.👪Avoid unnecessary exposure to signals that drag you downAfter a very brief exposure to negative emotional content, it's natural that you pay attention more to upsetting images, replay bad memories and worry about the future. Such thoughts keep circulating in your head, causing more anxiety and gloom.😥Overdosing on bad news spikes up your stress levels, undermines yourself and hurts you gradually. Instead, try to put yourself together, think constructively, think brightly.🤔 Everything will be just fine and you can do it! 👪Focus on the goodYou can induce good moods by downloading happy memories into your head. Do you remember when your little one just took the first step or called your name for the first time? When you return home from work, remember how you feel when you see your child's smiles and hugs.🤗Reflect on good memories and read jokes, uplifting stories to make you feel better. Focusing on acts of kindness and positive messages will help you decrease stress responses.😀👪Re-appraise the situationWe often think that we are good at predicting things if we have a plan. Actually, we are pretty bad at anticipating future discomforts. Sometimes, stressful things just occur along the way.😞When bad things happen, you may find a coping strategy when you reconsider the situation from a new angle. Stop dwelling too much on your personal emotional reactions, try to view the problem with more objectivity.💪

Why does my baby stiffen their legs and arms?

When you pick up your baby from the crib🛏️, you might have noticed their hands and legs got stiffened! This is normal! It usually happens when your little one gets too excited or frustrated👶, and her muscle gets tightened up. However, rarely there are some other cases that can indicate a problem! What is hypertonia? It is considered hypertonia when a baby's muscles get stiff and hard to move because of damage to the brain or spinal cord that controls muscle movements🧍. Babies with hypertonia move in different ways because their range of motion is limited. Walking, balancing, grabbing, and letting go of objects could be difficult for them. There are two types of hypertonia, which are Spastic and Dystonic. Spastic hypertonia is when muscle spasms when a baby moves. On the other hand, when a baby is with Dystonic hypertonia, their muscle tone stays the same whether the baby is moving or still. In order to figure out which hypertonia the baby has, doctors will move a baby's muscles in different directions at various speeds🚶.Why does it happen? Any symptoms I should be aware of?To move muscles, we send signals from the nervous system travel to the nerves. However, if the brain🧠 or spinal cord is injured, those signals can't reach the nerves, which causes hypertonia! This could happen when a baby had a lack of oxygen during birth. If his/her brain is injured or has a tumor, could cause hypertonia as well.A baby with hypertonia generally shows trouble moving her joints in the arms, legs or neck. Their range of motion👋 gets limited, and they fall often because they lose their balance. If a baby has severe hypertonia, he can't move the affected body part much because his joint freeze in place, which is called a contracture. Other reasons why your baby may stiffen their bodyThere are a few other possible medical reasons🏥 for a baby to stiffen their body. Other medical conditions related to brain damage, such as infantile spasms, cerebral palsy, seizures, and epilepsy can cause this symptom as well. Occasional muscle stiffening isn't something to worry about. But if you feel suspicious too often, you should contact a doctor for a check-up and start a diagnosis and treatment👩‍⚕️.

Breastfeeding Positions

Did you know breastfeeding can be much easier with proper positioning? Sore nipples, latching, and other breastfeeding problems can be solved if you do it in the right position💪!Some trials and errors will be needed, but as long as you find the position that works the best for you, you'll be a pro at breastfeeding your baby!😎How to hold the baby Let's learn from the basics - how to hold your baby🤱. Place your baby on one side, toward your breasts. Your baby's whole body should face your chest, and his/her ear, shoulder, and hip have to align in a straight line. The baby's body also has to be straight in line with the body, not turn to the side. Using a nursing pillow can help you because it can lower the weight and adjust the height👍.Find your best position for breastfeeding! Now, if you are ready, try these 5 positions and see which works best for you!👩‍🍼Cradle holdCradle position is when you put your baby in your arms like they are lying in a cradle. For this position, bend your one elbow and rest your baby's head in, and use the hand on the same side to support the baby's body. 👶Now, use your other hand to cup your breast. Place your thumb above your nipple and your index finger at the spot where your baby's chin is. If the position is all set, lightly compress your breast so that your nipple points toward your baby's nose. 👩‍🍼Crossover holdDecide which breast you'll be nursing from and hold the baby's head with your hand on the opposite side of the nursing breast. To make the holding easier, put your wrist between the baby's shoulder and your thumb behind one ear👂, the other fingers behind the other ear. With your free hand, cup your breast and gently put it towards your baby's mouth.👩‍🍼Football holdIf you have had a C-section, have large breasts, or your baby is small or premature, a football hold will be an option for you. Position your baby facing you, and tuck his/her legs under your arm on the same side of the breast you are nursing from. (Like you are holding a football!🏈) Support the baby's head with the same hand. Use the other hand to cup your breast.👩‍🍼Laid-back positionLaid-back position is helpful, particularly for moms with smaller breasts, and newborns with sensitive tummies👶. As the name of the position suggests, you should lean back on a couch and put your baby on your body, facing tummy to tummy. Put his/her head near your breast so the baby can reach your breast naturally. If the baby finds it hard, you can lead him/her by directing the nipple toward the mouth.👩‍🍼Side-lying positionFor night feeders😴, a side-lying position is a good choice because you and your baby both have to lie down on a bed. Put your baby on your side, tummy to tummy, and hold them with the hand on the side you're lying on. Use the other hand to cup your breast and feed the baby. This position could suffocate the baby, so you should never do this position on a recliner, couch, or water bed!Breastfeeding positions to avoidIf you nurse your baby in an improper position, your breasts might not be able to produce enough milk! The most common mistake new moms make is to hunch over their bodies to the baby. Keeping your back straight and bringing your baby up to your breast is the key to breast stimulation✨. For your and your baby's safety and comfort, always make sure the baby's body isn't too far from the breasts. (The baby can pull on your nipple while feeding! ouch!😵) Also, put the baby's body and head facing the same direction so he/she can swallow the breast milk without trouble.

Exclusive pumping guide

Breastmilk? Formula? Or both?🤔 It is a question that moms can't decide easily, especially if you are a new mom. Some moms decide to give pumped breastmilk with bottles exclusively, which is called Exclusive pumping ('EPing' in short). If you have decided, or thought of being one of them, here is a little guide to help you! 🦮EPing is really, really hard! Why should I do it?According to moms who've done it already, apparently, it is the toughest choice you can make among all the baby-feeding ways🫢! There are various reasons why moms choose EPing even though they know the fact. The biggest reason why moms chose to EPing is that they are in a situation where they can't nurse directly from breasts, but still don't want to give up the benefits of breastmilk. Their babies may be twins or multiples or are separated from their mom for many reasons - hospitalized, working mom, or preterm. Some moms just feel discomfort nursing the baby directly at the breast. Also, if you want to monitor a baby's milk intake and schedule feedings🍼, EPing can be a good option.Frequently Asked Questions: How much milk should you express? It differs for each baby, but they will take in 25 to 32 ounces of milk on average per day👶. This takes about five times to pump a day on average. However, it could be very difficult for moms to pump a full supply because every woman produces a different amount of breast milk a day. When would be the best time to start Exclusive Pumping? You can start exclusive pumping as soon as your baby is born! To be prepared, renting a hospital-grade pump in advance before birth can help. Starting from the first hour after your baby's born, start hand pumping as soon as possible💃. Start using an electric pump from the second day. You'll need to pump at least 8 to 12 times a day on average to keep up with your baby's demand! How to schedule pumping? You can schedule your pumping any time of the day that works for you! However, there are some things to keep in mind before you put it down to your scheduler. Once your milk supply starts to increase, pumping can take about 10 to 20 minutes⏱️. So try to think about times when you'll be from your baby's distraction! Any tips to make my Express Pumping easier? To make your Express Pumping journey less stressful, try to rent a hospital-grade breast pump. There are consumer-grade pumps, but they are not suitable for moms pumping 8-12 times a day. Your hospital, pharmacy, or local breastfeeding support center can help you👩‍⚕️!Once you are ready with the pump, set up an in-house pumping station so you can handle everything in one spot! This will make your pumping life so much easier. And again, caring for yourself is as important as pumping. So stay healthy🥗 and try to not get too much stress on pumping. There are apps that track the number of times you pump and get alerts, (which is very handy!) so try getting some help from it!

Why homemade baby's formula isn't safe

Mmm, mmm, good😋! We love homemade food! They are delicious, healthy, and nutritious!Wait, then would homemade baby formula be better than the ones in the shops🤔? The answer is NO! If you wonder, here's why:What is in baby formula?Have you ever wondered what is that white powder made of? Basically, baby formula is made to replicate human breast milk as much as possible🥛. The biggest difference between formula and breastmilk is that the latter is a living composition while the formula is inert.Purified cow's milk is the most commonly used ingredient for baby formula. Formula made with soy milk or oat milk is often seen as well. A blend of vegetable oils is used as a fat source🫛, and lactose as a carbohydrate source. Ingredients for vitamin and mineral mix depend on the manufacturer.Making my own baby formula at home! Is it possible?According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), making baby formula at home is not safe🙅. Why is that? It's because infants need very specific nutrition in order to grow and it's very hard to meet all the needs at home. Commercially manufactured formulas, however, are designed to contain protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals well balanced. Also, you'll be using commercial goods as ingredients to make baby formula at home🏠 - for example, raw milk. Commercials refine those ingredients to be suitable for infants, but we can't do that at home! What should I do if I can't find baby formula around?Middle of the night🌃, no formula, no shops open, and your baby is crying from hunger! Many of us have already dealt with, or can face this situation! If there's no way to get the baby formula, try calling your pediatrician or nearby clinic for help. They might have an emergency formula supply to help you👨‍⚕️. If they don't have it stocked, they can recommend you other ways to fill your little one's hunger. If your baby is approaching age 1, you might consider feeding whole cow's milk or soy milk as the very last option. It would be a better option than giving her homemade or diluted formula! To ensure safety, ask your pediatrician for guidance in advance if your baby is good to drink these as an alternative!

What should your breast milk look like?

What color pops into your mind when you think of breast milk🍼? For me, it's pure white! So I was very surprised when I found out the color of breast milk can change color with different hues😮! What breast milk color is normal? The color of breast milk varies for every woman👩. Typical breast milk is white with a yellowish tint, but the color changes depending on the breastfeeding period and the mom's condition. Colostrum, which comes in right after a baby's birth, tends to be yellowish-white. Then the transitional milk, which comes in between colostrum and mature milk🍼, tends to have an orange tint. Mature milk tends to be white like skimmed milk, but again, every woman's milk is different, so there are individual differences. Why does my breast milk change its color?Breast milk can change color depending on what food or medication a mom takes. The color usually changes from yellow to orange-ish colors, but it can also turn into completely different tints of colors, such as black or green😮! Green breast milk happens when mom eats a lot of green foods or supplements like chlorella. Some medications like minocycline can turn breast milk into black. Even though your milk color changes, it is completely normal as long as your doctor has cleared that your medications are safe👌.When to call the doctorIf you see blood in your breast milk, you must observe👀! It often happens when there's bleeding on the nipples, or when blood flow to the breasts increases. Both cases are normal in the early days, so you don't need to worry about it as well😌. But in rare cases, the blood could be a sign of breast cancer, mastitis, or papillomas. So if you notice blood you don't know where it's coming from, there is no reason to hesitate to call the doctor and discuss it.

Why do babies spit up so much

Oh no, your little one started spitting up again!🐤 You quickly took the tissues out and started wiping them up. While doing so, a little question popped up in your head. 'Why does my baby spit up so much? Is there any problem?'😟Why do babies spit up?Like moms are not familiar with nursing, babies are not used to feeding as well🍼. They haven't swallowed anything before birth, so their digestive system isn't fully developed. When a baby swallows breast milk or formula, bubbles of air get in as well🫧. The air has to come up, and when it does, liquid comes up with it because the baby's esophagus muscle, which controls foods coming and going, is weak yet. Spitting up is absolutely normal for babies, and usually, 4 months is the peak age for spitting up.Help! My baby is spitting up a lot!Spitting up is always related to feeding, so giving more attention when feeding will help a lot😎! 🍼While feedingHold your baby in an upright position so the formula or breastmilk can go straight down to the tummy. Check if the hole of the bottle nipple isn't too small or large. If it's too small, more air will get in and if it's too large, the liquid will come out too quickly and make your baby gulping. While feeding, try to minimize noises and keep away from other distractions so that the baby doesn't get disturbed😌.  Babies also spit up when they eat too much. Try feeding them for a bit shorter time but more frequently, and see if the spitting up gets better.🍼Before and after FeedingBurping before and after feeding helps extra air in the baby's tummy to come out before more food is layered on top of it. If the baby doesn't burp, don't worry because it means they don't need to😉. Try to avoid tight diapers, clothes, or seat belts in a car so the baby's tummy doesn't get too much pressure. After feeding, try holding them in an upright position for about half an hour so the liquid slides down.Unusual symptoms?Even though spitting out is normal, there are symptoms that you should be aware of. A hint of blood or green bile could be a sign of a blockage in the baby's intestines. Also, vomit could forcefully fly out of the baby's mouth, which is called projectile vomiting🤮. This could be a sign of pyloric stenosis, so you should immediately call the doctor. If the baby isn't gaining weight or having difficulty breathing while spitting out, you should also contact a doctor and discuss it too👨‍⚕️.

Caring for your newborn's umbilical cord stump

What's an umbilical cord stump?During pregnancy, the umbilical cord provides nourishment and oxygen to your baby from the placenta👶. It connects to your baby's abdomen through an opening that will later become their belly button. Once your baby is born, they can breathe on their own and receive nourishment through feeding🍼.When does the umbilical cord fall off?The umbilical cord stump usually falls off within 7 to 21 days, showing that the belly button is healing. Keep the area clean and dry during this time🧹. If the stump doesn't come off or falls off too early, contact the doctor for further evaluation. After the stump falls off naturally, a small amount of bleeding is normal🩸, similar to a scab. However, if the bleeding continues or resumes even after applying gentle pressure, inform the doctor. Some tips until your baby's umbilical cord stump falls off:🧸Keep the stump and the surrounding area clean and dry. Use warm water and a mild soap🧼 to gently clean around the base of the stump, then make sure to dry it thoroughly. You can use clean cotton swabs to help with cleaning. No need to clean the stump itself unless it accidentally gets dirty, like during a messy diaper change. In that case, simply cleanse it with warm water and dry it afterward.🧸Fold your baby's diaper away from the stump. Or look for newborn diapers with a special cut-out space for the stump. This allows air to circulate🌬️ and prevents contact with your baby's pee. Remember to change your baby's diaper frequently to avoid urine soaking toward the stump.🧸Skip the alcohol application on the stump. While it used to be recommended in the past, we now know that allowing the stump to naturally dry on its own leads to faster healing without any increased risk of infection.🧸Opt for loose-fitting clothing until the stump falls off. Avoid dressing your baby in bodysuit-style undershirts. If it's warm outside, a diaper, and a loose T-shirt will do the trick, allowing air to circulate and speeding up the drying process😉.

Benefits of infant massage

Babies adore the touch of their parents—it's their personal love language. From cozy snuggles to cradling during feedings, it's their paradise. But there's an even more purposeful way to connect: infant massage. It's a delightful bonding experience that supports your baby's development, offering both joy and growth. Why Is Infant Massage Important?Infant massage isn't just a delightful activity; it comes with a plethora of benefits for both babies and parents.  Through gentle massage, you can forge a stronger connection with your little munchkin. It's a heartwarming way to enhance attachment, and it even works wonders for moms dealing with postpartum blues. Thanks to the release of oxytocin, aka the love hormone, those feel-good vibes will be flowing! But massage isn't just for the muscles; it's a brain-boosting extravaganza! By stimulating both sides of the brain, infant massage supports healthy cognitive development and encourages those tiny muscles to grow stronger and more toned. Talk about flexing those brainpower muscles! The Touchy-Feely Guide: Baby Massage for Bonding and Bliss!💆🏻Legs and FeetBegin by holding their heel with one hand. From there, let your other hand glide along their thigh, stroking all the way down to the ankle. As you do so, imagine the gentle squeeze of a milkmaid, providing a comforting touch. Reverse the motion and stroke back up from the ankle to the thigh. Now, it's time to show some extra love to those adorable feet🦶. Use your thumbs to rub and caress their tiny toes, gently uncurling and stroking them.💆🏻 HeadBegin with your hands on both sides of your baby's head👶. Run your hands down both sides of their body, from head to toes, as if you're tracing their outline. To add a touch of bliss, use your fingertips to draw tiny circles on your baby's head.💆🏻FaceStart by placing your hands in a prayer-like position on your baby's forehead. Gently push outward from the center, as if you're spreading positive energy☀️. Now, with your thumb, create a playful smile by stroking from one cheek, across the upper lip, and all the way to the other cheek. Don't forget to repeat this delightful motion on the lower lip, spreading those happy vibes. 💆🏻ChestFind a quiet space🤫 and warm your hands. Lay your baby on their back and place your hands at the center of their chest, below the collarbone. Use gentle circular motions, stroking outward towards the sides of the chest. Pay attention to your baby's cues and adjust pressure accordingly.💆🏻TummyUsing your fingertips, draw an oval shape below your baby's belly button. Follow the natural path of digestion by moving clockwise🕐. Next, "walk" your fingertips from one side of your baby's belly to the other, creating an "X" shape on the diagonal.💆🏻BackLay them on their tummy on a soft surface and use gentle, rhythmic strokes with your hands, starting from the neck and moving down to the buttocks🍑. Pay attention to your baby's cues and adjust pressure as needed for a soothing and comforting experience. Before you start a massage: Tips for moms! For consistency, put infant massage in your and your baby's daily routine📅. Choose a time when you're not busy and your baby isn't hungry, and set it as a massage time for every day so that a baby comes to expect and enjoy it. But remember to make changes to the situation. No one likes to be massaged when they don't want to. Check your baby's mood and follow his cue! Using massage oil or lotion🧴 is always a good option so your hands glide smoothly over your baby's body. Choosing a cold-pressed fruit or vegetable oil would be the best because your little one might suck on his hands or fingers.

Pneumococcal vaccination (PCV13) 1st dose

Why should I take the vaccine?💡Pneumococcal vaccination is essential for babies as it protects them from serious infections caused by Pneumococcal bacteria, such as pneumonia, meningitis, bacteremia, and otitis media. When babies get vaccinated, their immune system becomes a superhero, fighting off these harmful bacteria and lowering the chances of getting seriously sick. So, getting that PCV13 shot is a great way to keep your little one safe and healthy. How to get the vaccine?💉Four doses of a pneumococcal shot in total are recommended for the best results. One dose will be given at each of the following ages: 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 12-15 months old (depending on your baby's condition). There are a few types of pneumococcal vaccines, and your doctor will choose which vaccine to give to your baby depending on the baby's medical condition. The number of doses will also be decided.TMI from Baby Billy👩‍⚕️: What is pneumococcal disease?Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria called pneumococcus. It causes infections of the ears, lungs, blood, and even the brain, which can cause serious symptoms. The virus is at risk the most for children under 2 years old, so it is important to get the vaccine when your little one is young. The disease often causes fever and chills, cough, rapid breathing, and chest pain. The virus infects ears as well, which brings a red, swollen ear drum. So if you see these symptoms in your baby, you should immediately talk to your doctor and get treatment. How does it spread?Like other transmittable disease, the virus spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Sometimes the symptoms of the disease could be mild, that people won't notice if they are infected. However, they still can spread the virus. The disease is more likely to develop when the baby's immune system is weak. So take care of  your baby's health condition especially when the season changes, and make sure to wash you and your baby's hands often to kill the germs.

How to soothe a crying baby

Hey, mommy and daddy! I am sorry if I made you exhausted crying last night🥺. I know feeding, diapering, and soothing me can feel like a never-ending cycle, consuming most of your day and night. Why is my baby crying?Until I start talking, crying is the only way I can express my feelings! Most of the time, these are the three main reasons making me want to cry: hunger, dirty diapers and stomach discomfort. If I start crying, it's often a sign that I'm ready for the next meal. Sometimes, my belly traps air while gulping down milk or formula, which is very uncomfortable! Wet or dirty diapers are something I hate as well! Check my diaper often so we could be all happy🧡!I cry when I feel sick🤒. If you see me crying harder than usual, try checking my condition. If you are concerned, reach out to the doctor and monitor any signs of fever. And of course, these aren't the only reasons making me wanna cry. When I feel tired, overwhelmed, or bored, I will start crying to let you know my feelings. How to soothe a fussy babyOnce you've ruled out the common reasons for my tears, it's time to try some of the techniques to soothe me and bring some relief to both of us! Wrap me up in a cozy swaddle. This snug wrapping in a soft blanket creates a comforting, womb-like environment that helps me feel secure and calm🥰. I also find comfort in sucking, so offer me my thumb, finger, or a pacifier to help soothe me. Use a front carrier or sling. Carry me close to you while walking around. The gentle motion and feeling of closeness can be very soothing for me as well!Babies have different preferences on soothing. For example, some babies find rhythmic whooshing sounds calming, and some find bathwater calming! So observe me carefully, and find something that fits me will help you calm me easily!Sometimes, hearing from an expert can provide the peace of mind you need, knowing that you're doing everything you can and just need a little more patience. Good luck mom! 😎What to do if you feel frustrated by your baby's cryingI try not to, but there are times I cry too much so you can't handle it😿, and I know you feel frustrated and exhausted. Apparently, most mommies feel the same, so you are not the only one. If this happens, pass me to grandma, grandpa, friend or a babysitter and take some time for yourself.Sometimes, soothing is needed for you as well, mom💌. If you feel you're at a breaking point, put me in my crib and try to rest quietly in another room until you feel okay. Take a breath, call a friend for emotional support, or listen to calming music to soothe yourself. But no matter how discouraged you are, please never, ever shake me! It can result in abusive head trauma, even if it was very brief. It can also cause severe brain damage, or even death if it's serious!

Tips for nursing your baby

Break milk is amazing🤱! It's like the ultimate super food tailor-made for your baby. It's packed with all the essential nutrients your newborn needs to thrive and even armed with special antibodies that help boost their immune system💪. Breastfeeding is not as tricky as it may seem. Sure, it can feel a bit challenging at first but don't worry, you've got this!Breast Milk comes in three stages, each with its own superpowers! 🍼ColostrumThis is the first stage of breast milk, and it's like a golden elixir for your baby. Colostrum is thick, yellowish (sometimes clear), and packed with all the good stuff your little one needs to boost their immune system and aid digestion.🍼Transitional MilkAfter colostrum, we move on to transitional milk. It's like a tasty blend of milk and orange juice (but way better!). This stage provides more calories, fat, and lactose to support your baby's growing appetite.🍼Mature MilkThis is the superhero stage of breast milk. It arrives a little later, around 10 days to two weeks after giving birth. Mature milk is thin, white, and filled with all the essential nutrients, fats, and antibodies your baby needs to thrive.Let's talk about the breastfeeding position! Get ready to explore different breastfeeding positions beyond the basic cradle hold! 🤱Cradle holdBaby's head in your elbow, supporting their body. Hold your breast and point the nipple towards her nose.🤱Crossover holdIf you're nursing from the right breast, use your left hand to hold the head. Cup your breast with your free hand, just like the cradle hold. Happy nursing!🤱Football holdTuck your baby's legs under your arm on the same side as the breast you're nursing from. Use that arm, supported by a pillow, to lift your baby up comfortably. With your other hand, gently cup your breast! 🤱Side-lying positionLie on your side with a pillow under your head. Baby faces you, align their head with your nipple. Cup breast with free hand if needed.🤱Laid-back position ("biological nurturing")Lean back on a couch or bed with pillows supporting you. Place baby tummy to tummy on your chest, and let them seek out your nipple naturally. Ideal for newborns and babies with reflux or sensitivity. How often should I give breastmilk?Breastfeeding frequency can vary depending on your baby's age, feeding cues, and your milk supply. For newborns👶, it's common to breastfeed around 8 to 12 times a day, which means feeding every 2 to 3 hours. Newborns have small tummies and need frequent feedings to get enough nutrition and stimulate milk production. As your baby grows, they may have slightly longer stretches between feedings, but it's important to continue feeding on demand. Watch for hunger cues like rooting or sucking on your hands, and feed your baby whenever they show signs of hunger🧸.
