Why should I take the vaccine?💡

The Hib vaccination is like a shield for your baby, protecting them from Hib disease and meningitis. These bacterial infections can lead to really serious brain issues, especially in little ones, and Hib vaccination can protect the baby from the infection. 

Your baby will need 4 doses in total in order to complete building the protection, and this 2nd dose will ensure sustained defense against the virus until the 3rd shot. 

How to get the vaccine?💉

The 2nd shot of Hib vaccine is usually given after 2 months from the first dose, which usually is when your baby is 4 months old. If your baby was fine after the first dose, your doctor might have already made you an appointment for the second dose of the vaccine. If they didn't, do not hesitate to call and ask them for an appointment before the time passes.

Any side effects from the vaccine?

Common side effects include pain or redness at the injection site, mild fever, and irritability. Severe allergic reactions and high fever are extremely rare but possible. Mostly the side effects will be mild and will go away within few days, but it's important to discuss any concerns with a healthcare provider, as the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the minimal risks.

My baby had his/her first dose later than the recommended age. Should she/he still get the remaining 3 doses?

If the first dose was given within 2-6 months old, your baby will need to get the full 4 doses of the vaccine. However, if your baby started Hib shot after the age of 7 months, he/she'll get 2 doses only. This is because the immunity improves with age. 

Yes, late vaccination can reduce the number of doses, but since there is a risk of contracting Hib disease before vaccination, it is recommended to get the first dose at the suggested age.
