Why should I take the vaccine?💡

There are two kinds of shots that prevent Diphtheria: DTap and Tdap (Yes, their names are very confusing!). Your baby will need five doses of DTaP and one Tdap shot in his preteen. They will also protect your little one from developing a thick coating in the back of the nose or throat due to diphtheria, preventing potential breathing and swallowing difficulties.

How to get the vaccine?💉

Your baby will get their first dose of DTaP when he's 2 months old, and get the rest 4 dose and 1 dose of Tdap throughout his childhood. This won't last a lifetime, so they'll need booster shots to keep up the protection as they grow. 5 doses of DTaP will be given in these ages - 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months, and 4-6 years. Your doctor will schedule your appointment for the shots when it's needed!

TMI from Baby Billy👩‍⚕:

What is Diptheria?

Diphtheria typically begins with a scratchy throat, a slight fever (around 101 degrees or lower), and some chills. As it advances, it may create a white or grayish coating at the back of the nose or throat. This coating might make breathing or swallowing a bit challenging.

Is it serious?

Diphtheria is serious. It creates a coating in the back of the nose or throat, making breathing difficult by blocking the airway.  In young children, 1 in 5 cases can be severe, and overall, 1 in 10 may face challenges. Corynebacterium diphtheriae causes diphtheria, and its toxin can lead to heart and nerve issues.
